Newspaper cutting
Traditionally, newspaper cutting requires students physically cut and paste the newspaper article on their assignment. If you ask students to write news comments using their blogs, they can write their feedback, comments in the blog. Here is an example. The link of the newspaper article is also shown in the same post. You can embed the news link and paste to your blog and start commenting on it. A lot of online newspaper (MingPao) and websites (Yahoo HK) offer instant news blogging function. You can click the blog button at the end of the news and blog right away.
Students can keep all their work in a blog nicely and tidily. They will not lose it again and it will become their learning portfolio.
Discussion
What are other advantages of doing news review using blogs?
Is there any function of comment moderation in WordPress? Sometimes, feedback from students may not be appropriate for posting in blog. Comment moderation can enable administrator (teacher) to filter students’ comment before publishing on the blog.
Your ideas are creative.
This can save the trouble of cutting news articles from the newspaper. (Some students have done it messily) The news articles may change in colour after a period of time. It will be easier for the students to do the task.

I agree with you that students would not lose their work (i.e. news comment). Doing news commenting exercises online can help students save their money as they need not to pay for any newspaper. Moreover, doing the exercises online can help teacher check his or her student’s work.
It’s a good idea to make use of the blog to do newspaper cutting. Students will find it more interesting and they can keep a neat and systematic record of their newspaper cutting.
it’s a good idea
However, it is quite difficult for giving marks to their news commentary assignments
I think asking students to do news comment in a blog is much better than the traditional way. Apart from the advantages mentioned in this post, students can read their classmates’ views, and they may even start a discussion if they have different ideas using the comments function.
Doing news commenting online allows students to respond immediately to their daily life. Students can use the language meaningfully.
