Creative writing / Free writing
A picture is more than a thousand words. The multimedia rich nature of blog is particular powerful when it comes to stimulate writing ideas and inspire students to write. Teachers can easily post a picture to stimulate the thought of students. In the following blog post, a picture is used to stimulate students and write. Writing tasks such as free writing and writing the ending of story can be easily integrated in a blog.
I think students will find it very interesting and they will be encouraged to write more.
We can use the weblog to facilitate group or collaborative story writing. Teacher can set the scene and the background of the story and ask students to play different roles. They can discuss and decide their charactors’ personalities. Then they can write out the dialogue of the story and form an instant playscripts. They can edit and refine it. The most important thing is that each group can share their story with the other groups. This can ease the task and boost creativity.
I think that students need some vocabulary as well after looking at the picture. The same action may be described by different vocabulary items. Posting a picture is a good way to stimulate thinking at the beginning.
My sharing in IT seminar
well, I just want to say that I like the course because it’s pretty useful for me (I’m pretty poor with IT actually!).
Something to share: I search a blog about the topic “dogs”. And, the blog includes 2 dogs. It’s…
You are right. Students can be stimulated to respond to visual stimuli through using blogging as a means – it can allow them to look at a picture in diverse ways.
Free Writing
It’s really inspiring to use some lively pictures or visual elements to encourage to write creatively. And we can get many useful sources from the Internet.
Thanks for your recommendations!

I agree that using blog can be a good way to stimulate students’ interest in learning. The use of pictures and videos can avoid boredom and create fun. Students will definitely consider adding their own stuff into the blog. They will be proud of contributing something on their own.
A picture really helps to stimulate thoughts. It’s particularly useful to assist the weaker students to develop their ideas. Perhaps, teachers need to equip them with some vocabulary items so that they can handle the task well.
picture really works and when we seen picture we are not getting boared
Nowadays, students’ attention span is really short. We really have to stimulate them different means like videos, news clippings, songs …
I agree that pictures are good sources for stimulating students’ thought and arousing their learning interest, especially for those have low learning motivation. It’s less boring than simply presenting by words. Pictures allow them to think broadly without much restriction. It helps enhance their creativity.
Creative writing on the blog is not just to allow students to respond to some interactive input. They can ‘create’ their responses in an interactive way or send you some fancy pictures!
it all sounds good to us teachers, but how will our students feel about writing on blogs?

I think a blog is an ideal platform to expose students to texts that are related to their learning. Somtimes the texts and pictures in the textbooks are not so up-to-date and stimulating. Teachers can select some authentic materials and prepare some guidelines for students to discuss an issue on the blog. Students may develop critical thinking skills through discussion and sharing.
