Song are commonly used in English classroom. Multi-media such as video and audio are easily embeded to a blog. There are abundent of authentic spoken English materials online. Teachers with their professional judgment can design some very enjoyable yet educationally meaningful activity for students to learn in class or out of class.
Discussion question?
What learning activity can we design with multi-media feature in a blog?
Can you modify this learning task?
A new way to teach English
I have been looking for ways to teach English and searched on the Internet and found a blog talk about it. The Blog2teach.wordpress.com is neat. I like it very much. It has a lot of information there and I learn how to integrate song in my blog.

I think it is a good activity for students to listen to the English songs. When I played the songs, the students whistled in the class. I think I may use blog to upload the songs so that our students can play the songs while they are doing the activity.
I think it is really a good idea to include different audio and visual materials into the blog. It helps to motivate the students a lot.
I agree that blog can extend our class teaching easily and conveniently. Especially for language teaching, extra teaching materials are very important for our students to access. More they read or hear, more they learn.
I agree that songs teaching is a good way of promoting students’ interest in the English learning process. In the blog, students can choose the songs they like and rewrite the lyrics. That enhances their creativity with the appropriate use of thematic vocabulary. They can video-tape their songs then and post them up to the blog.
yes, it’s really a good idea to teach English using songs. We can get lots of useful resources from some websites, like Youtube.
Maybe just share one of my teaching experiences today. I taught one of the poetic elements – Repetition, in my English class. In order to make it more lively, I picked a folk song “Where Have All The Flowers Gone?” as an example coz this poem (and song as well) uses quite a number of repeated phrases and sentences.
To start with, i introduced the key words of the songs to get my students be familiar with this song. Then, I played the music video once and asked students to listen and tried to jot down the repeated phrases/sentences if they could through the listening task. After that, some students were invited to share the points they’d jotted in their notebook.
With their inputs, I diplayed the powerpoint with the lyrics for a glimpse. I tried to pinpoint the use of repetitive skills in this poem and shared the hidden messages conveyed. Next, I focused on telling them the effects or functions on using repetition in poems. To consolidate their knowledge, i played the song again and invited them to sing it together for fun.
I may say this was a good try to me as it helped create a more funny and interactive learning atmosphere. It also enrich their knowledge beyond languages.
Nice sharing with you.
Teachers can embed some videos from Youtube in their weblog.
Make use of the Internet
Recently I have given a listening lesson about media. Students were asked to do some exercises about TV commercials. They needed to find out the answers through listening to specific information. To motivate the students, I found some TV commercials p…

Discussion on social issues
The multimedia features of a blog give students a rich environment in equipping them with the necessary and updated knowledge on social issues. Teachers can watch the video clips with students and highlight some key words and phrases to students, which provide a solid foundation for students to engage in subsequent writing or speaking tasks. All of these learning activities facilitate interaction and peer learning.
You’ve given me a lot of ideas on using IT in teaching. However, it takes time to get familiar with the technique.
